Your Calendar Lies

In the upper Midwest, the calendar lies. Winter is well established by its official debut in late December and spring is still a hope by its scheduled appearance in late March. To deal with these lies, we have developed our own truths. We take the calendar into our own hands. For runners and walkers in the Twin Cities, St Patrick's Day is a good excuse to celebrate the impending end of winter and advance of spring, no matter what mother nature says.
Since 1973, the St Patrick's Day Human Race has been a coming out party. Friendships are renewed after icy separations. Watches are dusted off and put into service as an indicator of winter fitness. Teams come together as people seek to connect to the outside world again. Whether for speed or simply fun, runners and walkers are ready to get moving again, and the journey begins on Summit Avenue in St Paul.

If you look at the calendar and scream,'liar,' it's time to make a change. Take charge and join the celebration. Spread the word. Come to St Paul. Wear green. The truth is up to you.
